*scene 1*
All character except Mr. Lee, Angel and Demon stand in a row on the stage but is distance from each other. All characters are freeze.
TV host unfreeze and take one step forward.
TV host: Good evening and you’re watching the ‘Shine Up talk show’. Ladies and gentle men, the rate of suicide is increasing from day to day. Based on a survey conducted last year there were approximately 500 people who attempted suicide and 90% of which succeeded between the ranges of 10 years old to 50 years old. This show how critical……
Voice of TV host slowly fade and freeze. Stephen unfreezes and pretends to drive while smoking.
Steven:*sighs* this can’t be happening to me.
Steven takes a puff of his cigarette.
Steven: I’m such a failure!!*slowly breakdown to tears* I lose my job. My wife left me. I still have my OD to pay. How am I supposed to put food on the table for my children? Why did they have to go thru this too? It’s not their fault! No! It’s over, my life is over. My life is a mess. I’m good for nothing. Wait! If I die, the money claimed from the insurance company should be enough for my kids.
Steven pauses and looks at the crowd
Steven: All I need to do is to press this acceleration pedal, and it will fall of the cliff. Is only by this way, all this mess will be gone… for good.
Steven freeze.
*scene 2*
Alyssa unfreezes while all the other characters on stage still remain in freeze position.
Alyssa: This is it! How could I have been so stupid? I thought he was the only one for me. I gave him everything, everything! We were supposed to have a life together! And now, where is he? What am I going to do now? Mum’s never going to take me back. Not after all I’ve done to her. Who’s going to feed this baby?
Alyssa rubs her belly and cried hysterically.
Alyssa: There is no turning back. My life is totally screwed up.
Alyssa slowly pulls out a piece of glass.
Alyssa: This is the only way. For my sake and the sake of this child. At least this baby won’t have to face this cruel world.
Alyssa freeze.
*scene 3*
Pranshanth runs like he’s out of energy, catching his breath.
Pranshanth: I think I lost them
Pranshanth shows signs of relief.
Pranshanth: But it’s only for now. Sooner or later, they will find me. Should I surrender? But with the amount of heroin they found. There is no way, I can escape a life time jail sentences. What choices did I have? Arjund and Darrel have to eat. Nobody would help! And selling those pills was my only way to get money in such desperate moment. But now, it’s over! I can’t run away from this anymore. There is no way out! God, where are you? Do you find this amusing?! Or maybe… there isn’t such thing as God
*siren sound*
Prashanth: They’re catching up. No! I’m not going back to jail.
Prahansth starts to run again. But after a while he stops out of a sudden.
Pranshanth: Wait! If I jumped off this cliff, everything will be over. All my pain and suffering will end in just a second. And maybe, they’ll find a better family for Arjund and Darrel.
Pranshanth freeze.
*scene 4*
Melissa slowly approaches Mrs. Lee, while Mrs. Lee doing her work.
Melissa: Mummy…
Mother: What do you want?*in a rough tone*
Melissa slowly passes a slip of paper to her Mrs. Lee. Mrs. Lee reads it and throws back to her.
Mother: So you’re think you’re so great, huh? Just by getting straight ace?
Melissa: Mum, why is it that you’re never happy with whatever I do? I’ve never failed any subject, I do all my chores, I represent the school in competitions and I win them! Why is it that it was never good enough for you?
Mother: You’re stupid if you think I only want you to get good results.
Melissa: Then, what is it you want from me?
Mother: I want you to get out of my life!
Mother push her down the floor my life and walked off. Student breaks down to tears.
Melissa: All I wanted was a smile on her face. Why is it so hard? If she hates me so much, why did she fight to keep me during the divorce? Was it just for the money? Or is it to have revenge to daddy? Is my life worthless to her? Maybe it is. Yes, it is. It is the only reason why she hates me so much. My life is nothing to her.
Melissa took out a bottle of pill.
Melissa: There’s no point of living anymore.
Melissa pause.
*scene 5*
Angel and devil each walk in from different end.
All actors unfreeze and show face expressions signaling that they going to commit suicide.
Angel and demon walk to Steven.
Angel: No, it is not over! Don’t do it, what about your kids. Don’t you care about them? They need their father’s love! Money is not going to make them happy.
Devil: There us nothing you can’t do about it, you are a failure! Put an end to your children suffering!
Angel and devil quickly move to Alyssa.
Angel: Alyssa, it is not fair to the baby inside of you. It’s not your choice whether the baby lives or not!
Devil: You can’t raise this baby by yourself, don’t make this child suffer.
Angel: How about your mum? Ho will your mum live on without you?
Devil: Your family won’t accept you anymore. You’re a disgrace! Don’t tell me you actually even dare to think about going home in this condition!
Angel and Devil then move on to the Pranshanth
Devil: You’re a criminal! You good for nothing. You are a waste of space!
Angel: No there is always a second chance.
Devil: Second chance? You are going back to jail!
Angel: How about your family? Arjund. . Darrel. .
Devil: Your kids won’t want a criminal for a father! Their entire friend will make fun of them. It is better if you die.
Angel starts to run to all 3 of them to hold them back.
Angel: Think about your family. Don’t you care, your family, your mother, your kids?
Steven, Alyssa, Pranshanth ignore.
Devil: You can’t turn back now. It’s too late.
Angel: Don’t listen to him. It’s never too late. There will...
Devil shouted: Just do it!!
Steven presses the acceleration pedal and pretends to crash and fall off the chair.
Alyssa cuts her wrist and fall on the floor.
Prashanth takes his last breath and pretends to jump off from the cliff.
Angel: Look what have you done. Why must you be so cruel?
Devil: *Laugh loudly* 3 down, one more to go.
*Scene 6*
Melissa unfreezes as angel and devil slowly approaches her.
Angel: Hey Lisa it is not over girl. Maybe you have to talk to your mum. That’s all.
Devil: She wants you out of her life, talk? Don’t make me laugh.
Angel: No, don’t end your life like this.
Devil: Your mother doesn’t want you anymore! Don’t you get it? You’re good for nothing. You only bring pain. If you love her, end her misery. Take those pills. Do it!
Angel: Don’t listen to him…
Phone rang. . . Angel and devil kept quiet and walked away slowly.
Student: Hello? *sniffing*
Mr.Lee: Hey Lisa, are you doing ok? I heard you got your PMR results today. How did you do?
Melissa: *remains speechless*
Mr.Lee: It’s ok dear. Whatever results you have, I want you to know that daddy is always proud of you.
Melissa: Um…
Mr.Lee: I’m sorry, Lisa. I can’t be by your side now. How I wish I could be next to you now and give you a hug. But remember dear, although I’m not with you physically but I’m always in your heart, ok dear?
Melissa put down the pills and stood up and walked off while talked on the phone.
TV host unfreeze.
TV host: There are many people out there, waiting for a hope, asking for acceptance, or seeking a second chance, and maybe even looking for love for them. Unfortunately, this cruel world have force them to the edge of desperation and to them, leaving this world is the only way to end their misery. So, ladies and gentlemen, just by showing a little bit of kindness and love, you might bring changes to somebody life or even save someone’s life. Remember the way to make this world a better place, take a look at yourself and be the change. I’m Kelvin Michael signing off. Good night.
