The Letter

Tim and Sarah were college students who met during summer vacation while working at a resort. They started off by saying hello whenever they saw each other. Tim finally got up the courage to ask Sarah out for a date, and the romance began. Tim and Sarah would spend their days off together at the beach, taking long walks or going out to get something to eat. They both in love: they could see it in each others eyes. Yet, Tim was shy and had a hard time expressing his feeling with words.

The summer quickly passed and the cool fall breezes it was time for Tim to fly home, so Sarah took him to the airport. They spent a long time embracing as tears welled up in their eyes. Would they ever Would they ever see each other again?? Finally it was time time for Tim to board the plane he had to go. He pulled an envelope out of his pocket and gave it to Sarah. Her name was on it. Tim turned away and walked slowly away as Sarah cried. She put the envelope in her purse and headed for her car.

Sarah was terribly depressed: Tim was gone. She stopped at a restaurant and ordered lunch. Sitting at the table, she took the envelope out of her purse and looked over it. When the waiter bought the food, she put the envelope away, she wasn't sure she wanted to read it anyway. Lunch was okay, nothing tasted as good anymore; Tim was gone. If she could hear his voice right now: she couldn't.

When Sarah got home, she turned on the TV. She couldn't find a program that interested her. But she watched a soap opera anyway. She figured she might as well be depressed by someone else problem instead of her her own. But no matter what she did, Sarah could not chase away that Tim was gone. She loved him so much, but what can she do?? During a commercial. she remembered the envelope.

Turning off the television, she took the letter out of her purse and looked at the outside of the envelope once again, wondering what he might have written. She missed Tim so much: she felt so empty. The shrill ring of the telephone broke the silence. Putting down the envelope in her purse, she answered the phone. It was her friend, Nicky, asking if Sarah could go to the mall with her. Nicky knew that Sarah would be feeling bad, so she figured this would get her mind off of Tim being gone. Knowing she should get out, Sarah agreed to go and glanced at the envelope as she went out the door. Oh, if we could only be together, she thought.

Days went by and nothing cheered Sarah up: Tim was gone. It was like he had died. Occasionally, Sarah would pick up the envelope that Tim had addressed to her and look at it, but she never opened it. It just made her sad, and it seemed that something always got in the way. Why hasn't Tim called me? Sarah wondered. He must not really love me or else he could call me.

Weeks went by and Sarah was starting to resent Tim. He doesn't care about me, she tought. What a jerk was I was to believe that he loved me. She looked at the envelope and found it under a pile of bills and papers. It was rumpled now wrinkled and stained by a coffee spiled. "Tim, where are you?" she cried as she threw the envelope across the room. IT landed in acorner.

Months later, Sarah found the envelope, still lying in the corner. She picked it up and put in the trash. The letter she never opened had said:

Dear Sarah: THough these words have not yet been said, they have long been true.
THese words will closely bond us although they are few,
they can never be broken, whereever I am, or whatever you do.
My dear Sarah, nothing else matter to me now-" I love you."
Will you marry me?
pls reply. Tim
